Top stock market plugins & widgets for wordpress

I play the stock market and thought its time to add some stock market widgets to my blog. I rolled up my sleeves and went searching for some and here are the results:

Embedded Stock Data WordPress Pluginhttp://abeautifultrade.com/?p=7 . Simply enclose a ticker in double brackets (e.g. [ [ AAPL ] ]) and it will be replaced with ticker data. The data is taken from the Yahoo Quote Server.

Comments – zip does not have directory structure. Needs Curl.

How it looks like – I don’t have curl installed so I am pasting a screenshot from their site

Andy Hill has created 2 very cool stock plugins:

Stock Quote Sidebarhttp://andy.hillhome.org/blog/code/stockquotesidebar. This is a WordPress plugin that allows you to put a list of stock quotes in your sidebar.

Comments – Needs Curl.

How it looks like – I don’t have curl installed so I am pasting a screenshot from their site:

Stock Quote Tooltiphttp://andy.hillhome.org/blog/code/sqtt . This plugin allows for automatic inclusion of stock quote tooltips when you mouseover a configured company name.

How it looks like – Google . As you can see the tooltip is seen but the data is missing.. my guess? that it needs curl like Stock Quote Sidebar. Since I dont have time to hack the plugin here is a screenshot from their site:

Stock Quotes Widgetshttp://patrick.bloggles.info/2006/04/23/get-your-stock-quotes-widgets/ . You can display your favorite stock quotes on your blog’s sidebar.

How it looks like – You can see it in my sidebar :) and a screenshot from MY blog:

GStock WordPress widgethttp://www.gstock.com/page.php?pg=wordpress . A plugin to see (and show) the stocks that interest you, last price and current GStock BUY or SELL signal generated by their supercomputer.

How it looks like – You can see it in my side bar :) and a screenshot from MY blog:

SaneBull wordpress pluginhttp://www.sanebull.com/plugins.html . You can trigger SaneBull Live Stock widget whenever you write a stock simbol in your post.

Comments – took me time to understand how do i download the plugin. The download link is the image on the left.

How it looks like – No idea. Didn’t manage to get it to work and their demo page is down. I am keeping this plugin in my list since someone else might have the time to see whats wrong with it.

Stockinfo wordpress plugin – http://www.movethemarkets.com/downloads/stockinfo-1.0-README.html . This plugin scans your blog posts for stock symbols and makes a table at the bottom of your post with links to Yahoo! Finance, Google Finance, and StockTickr pages for those stocks.

How it looks like – It broke my wordpress (=error messages instead of blog). So I wont bother with screenshots or link to the site. It’s probably an old plugin that doesn’t work with wp2.2

Stocks Watchlist WordPress Pluginhttp://www.traderknowledge.com/free/stocks-watchlist-wordpress-plugin/ . The Stocks Watchlist plugin allows you to store stock symbols in your WordPress database and then output these symbols along with their live prices to your WordPress blog. Needs curl

How it looks like – Curl again… screenshot from their site:

Conclusion:

2 plugins stood out – GStock WordPress widget and Stock Quotes Widget. The first is more polished but the second has a chart (small and unusable but cute). GStock plugin also displays their current buy/sell signal so you can know which stocks are hot.

Curl – I didn’t dig and try to find out which stock plugin was the base of all the others that use curl but my guess is that one originated the rest since curl, a great app, is not that popular. Most people use wget or some pear package. I dont use any downloaders since I am afraid of hackers ;)

Is there a plugin or widget that gives users the option to enter in a stock symbol and get the results?

Great list, thanks! I will probably use the Gstock widget on my next update. Possibility of customization for spot gold prices? Really helpful either way, thanks again.

Looks like the link for Stock Quotes Widget is no longer valid.
